Yip joined MediaCorp Radio in 1994 as Vice-President of Sales &
Marketing and was promoted to Chief Executive Officer in May 2004. He
then went on to be the Executive Vice President (Sales) of MediaCorp
with responsibilities for Television, Radio, Newspapers and Magazines.
In 2008, MediaCorp seconded him to assume the position of Chief
Operating Officer of the Vietnamese joint venture company, International
Media Corporation, based in Ho Chi Minh City.
James was the President of the Institute of Advertising Singapore from
2001 to 2003. He was re-elected President for 2006 and 2007. He has been
instrumental in raising the standards of Advertising in Singapore,
propelling the Advertising Profession to new heights through large-scale
Industry Events such as the Singapore International Advertising
Congress, Annual Singapore Advertising Lecture, the EFFIES and the Hall
of Fame Awards.
A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, he started his career
in Finance and Systems Development but later moved on to various Sales
and Marketing Management positions at Eveready and Asia Pacific
Breweries and then to general management at Asia Dairies.
In the 30 years of Sales and Marketing experience, James managed many
market leader products including Eveready batteries, Tiger Beer,
Heineken Beer, Magnolia, Daisy and Meadow Gold dairy products.
In the course of his career, he saw through many major product launches
and marketing re-positioning programmes. This included the successful
launch of Energizer batteries and Heineken Beer in the domestic market
and the re-positioning of Tiger Beer as a premium product in 1984.
Recently, he successfully launched Singapore’s latest Radio station,
James graduated in Accountancy from Curtin University (Australia) and
has been a member of ACIS (UK).
